A Babydoll is a short nightgown or negligee intended as nightwear for women. The garment is often trimmed with lace, ruffles, appliques, Marabou fur, bows and ribbons, optionally with spaghetti straps. Sometimes it is made of sheer or translucent fabric like nylon or chiffon or silk. The garment's hemline is usually about six inches above the knee like a minidress and may have a scoop-neck. They are usually considered provocative.
Basque is a women's clothing term for a garment better known in America as a Merrywidow. The garment is reminiscent of a Victorian corset but kinder on the ribs. The modern day basque features lace-up or hook-and-eye fastening, as well as boning or vertical seams for structure and support. It usually - but not always - has cups, and is distinguished by its length: unlike the bustier, the basque goes all the way down to the hips and will sometimes feature detachable suspenders
A Bodystocking is an article of lingerie, similar to a leotard or a catsuit. It is much the same thing as a unitard, but the term bodystocking is likely to be preferred when the garment is worn as an underlayer in cold weather. It usually has long legs, but it may have long, short, or no sleeves. It is usually made from a sheer fabric similar to those used for stockings and tights, or from fishnet material. Some people consider bodystockings to be an erotic garment.
A Bustier is an article of clothing for women, which is form-fitting and is traditionally worn as lingerie. Some people wear it as an outer garment. It looks somewhat like a basque, but a bustier is shorter (it reaches down only to the ribs or the waist) and has a different function: its primary purpose is to push up the bust (although it shapes the waist gently at the same time. These days, it's often made with mesh panels rather than boning.
A Cami or Camisole is a woman's undergarment which covers the top part of the body. It is sleeveless and tight fitting in contrast to a loose-fitting babydoll or chemise. The materials of choice in which they are manufactured are satin or silk, or stretch materials such as lycra, nylon, or spandex. A camisole can be worn over a brassiere or without one. Some camisoles come with a built-in underwire bra which eliminates the need for a bra among those who prefer one. The chemise, also called a smock or shift, is a simple garment worn next to the skin to protect clothing from sweat and body oils. Chemise is the French term. Italians called it a "camicia".
A Corset is traditionally a garment worn to mold and shape the torso into a desired shape for aesthetic or medical purposes (either for the duration of wearing it, or with a more lasting effect). Many garments sold as "corsets" during recent years are not technically corsets in the traditional sense. While modern "corsets" and "corset tops" often feature lacing and/or boning and generally mimic a historical style of corsets, they have very little if any effect on the shape of the wearer's body.
A G-string or thong is a narrow piece of cloth or even leather that passes between the legs, usually between the buttocks, and is attached to a band around the hips, worn as a bikini bottom or as underwear by both men and women. The two terms, g-string and thong are often used interchangeably however, the primary difference between the two garments is that a g-string has less material around the waist band and between the buttocks hence, a "string" like appearance.
A Merry Widow is a short, strapless corset with half-cups for the breasts and long garters. It was first made by the lingerie company Maidenform in 1952, to coincide with the 1952 film, The Merry Widow, starring Lana Turner. The original Merry Widow foundation garment was a full-length corselette, cut with attractive panels of black and white lace, incorporating slim panels of black elastic yarn net. A heavy-duty zipper was inserted behind a velvet-backed hook-and-eye flange, and the whole garment was lined with nylon voile. Nine long spiral wires were cased in black satin. Turner is reputed to have said, "I am telling you, the Merry Widow was designed by a man. A woman would never do that to another woman." To this day, merry widow is the generic term for a corselette bra in the United States. This type of lingerie is also known as a Torsolette, and is used in bridal lingerie, as well as like a bustier.
A Naughty & Nice is a matching 3 piece ensemble consisting of undergarments, babydoll nightgown and peignoir made of diaphanous chiffon with shoulder puffs, ruffles, bows, lace, ribbons, etc. The peignoir may or may not have shoulder puffs.
The Negligee is a form of womenswear intended for wear at night and in the bedroom. It is a form of nightgown; first introduced in France in the 18th Century, where it mimicked the heavy head-to-toe style of women's day dresses of the time.
A Peignoir is a long nightgown for women usually sheer and made of chiffon. It is repeatedly mentioned in the novel The Awakening, by Kate Chopin, somewhat like a show of when she is awakening. Peignoir is also notably featured in the opening stanza of the poem Sunday Morning by Wallace Stevens. Peignoirs are usually sold with matching panties but are often worn with no underwear.
A Tanga is an undergarment and swimwear for both sexes which has no material around the sides other than the waist band. A string tanga is a type of tanga swimwear which has the waist band replaced with strings which are tied. The term originated from the Kimbundu term "ntanga", meaning loincloth.
A Teddy is a form of bodysuit-like lingerie, often worn in the boudoir. Unlike a bodysuit, it is typically looser and more sheer, and may be designed to slip off from the shoulders, rather than to open at the crotch. The teddy is normally worn for the seductive look, rather than practical reasons.

Lingerie is a term for women's fashion undergarments and intimate apparel designed to be visually appealing, sexy, sensual and erotic, typically incorporating sheer and see through materials such as lace and silk. The concept of lingerie being visually appealing is relatively recent. For many years women selected underwear for three major purposes - to alter their shape, for reasons of hygiene, and for modesty. More recently women’s underwear has become glamorous, provocative, revealing and more form fitting. Today lingerie is seen as sexy and is worn by liberated women to be more sensual, seductive and appealing. In other words sexy lingerie is for sexually uninhibited women as an enhancement to their sexuality and to give a deliberately glamorous boost to their sex lives.
